UNDERSTANDING WOUND CARE IN HIV/AIDS

Spring 2025

​

This event explored wound care in the face of stigma and possible transmissible illness, while acknowledging the struggles of quality care for AIDS patients during the AIDS epidemic. Our guest speaker, Nurse Karen, shared her personal experencies in this field and during the epidemic.​

PRISCILLA DELGADO

Mrs. Priscilla Luna Delgado is a registered dietitian at HEB, based out of San Antonio, Texas. She practices in San Antonio and has the professional credentials of RD, LD (Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian). She may may see patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) Type 2, Obesity, Binge Eating Disorder, and more.

​Paris “AJ”  Adkins-Jackson, PhD, MPH

Paris “AJ” Adkins-Jackson, PhD, MPH is a multidisciplinary community-partnered researcher whose work resides at the intersection of mixed methodology and social determinants of health such as racism. AJ earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychometrics from Morgan State University, a Master of Public Health with an emphasis in applied biostatistics and epidemiology from Claremont Graduate University, a Master of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from California Institute of Integral Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Humboldt State University.  At the CARE Research Center, AJ will serve as the inaugural Michael J. Fox Foundation Research Fellow, studying the role of social determinants of health on medical mistrust and clinical trial participation of Black, Indigenous, and Transgender communities.

DR. Beth Ayn Stansfield, MEd

Dr. Stansfield has worked with educators, students and families for over thirty-five years as an educator, behavioral specialist, counselor and administrator in the field of education. In addition, she served as adjunct faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University in their Department of Education.

While supporting her daughter through recovery, Beth Ayn began on-going training in the field of eating disorders and mental health first aid. Attending national conferences, completing certifications and receiving praise for her extensive knowledge of resources. Beth Ayn is the Founder/Director of Stay Strong Virginia.

DR. ALLISON CRAWFORD

February 24, 2022

​Dr. Allison Crawford, PhD, is an RN for Texas county jails, as well as a newly appointed T32 Provost Early Career Postdoctoal Fellow at the School of Nursing at UT Austin. She has focused in on her research that addresses the systemic inequalities in childbearing populations influenced by arrest and incarceration. She has stated that she was inspired to dive into her research from "[wanting] to assist women in their journeys to motherhood but also being mindful that mothering comes with a unique subset of challenges especially with individuals at the intersections of gender, class and race".
